Scholarship description:
This scholarship is in honor of Herman Marcus Hooten, who valued education and would mentor anyone who had questions or ever doubted themselves on obtaining a college education. Mr. Hooten was a tremendous athlete and had the opportunity to attend the University of Notre Dame on a football Scholarship. He later obtained his Master's degree in Social Work at the University of Utah. Mr. Hooten was the Program Director for the Ethnic Minority Health Sciences Center, as well as the Dean of Admission at the School of Medicine for the University of Utah Medical Center. During this time, he was instrumental in expanding the program beyond the boundaries of Utah. He also served as a Professor of Social Work at Weber State University. Mr. Hooten poured his heart into those he served, and believed all ethnicities should be given the opportunity to follow their dreams through education. He was always an advocate for change and diversity. He would do everything in his power to see his students achieve their educational goals. The Hooten family would like to honor the memory of their husband and father and award, a $1,200.00 scholarship to a CHS student and help them reach their dreams of obtaining a college education.

Applicant requirements:
High school senior planning to attend college after graduation
Admission to a 2 or 4-year college or university or technical college
Minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA
